Chenou

Chenou

The small neighboring country of Château-Landon.

The village belonged to the bishopric of Sens until 1775, when it passed into the hands of the house of Orleans. It was then that the Lordship of Néronville occupied it.

Likewise, each of the hamlets of Chenou is the heir of ancient fiefdoms which have a history of their own, sometimes richer than that of the country of Chenou itself. The most consistent is that of Chenouteau which belonged to Mr. Chopet de Beaumont, Count of Beaumont and Lord of Beaumoulin.

The Saint-Sulpice et Saint-Antoine church was built in the 13th century. It is in Romanesque style.
The choir of the church is bordered by arches, the function of which is however only decorative.
In addition, the church was classified as a Historic Monument in 1928.
The porch also called caquetoir, preceded by a magnificent peristyle, is original because the openings on each side of the door are asymmetrical.
