The castle

The castle was built in 1150.

It was badly damaged during the Hundred Years' War. A first renovation was made in 1455. In the Renaissance, Anne de Pisseleu renovated the left part and shaved the most damaged right part. At the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th, the "Maréchaux de la Châtre" were, again, modified and made fruitful the domain. In 1815, it was sold to be dismantled before being saved by the painter Etienne Berne Bellecour in 1867. He sold it in 1899 to the composer Jules Massenet who made it his summer residence. It should be noted that according to his wishes, Jules Massenet lies in the cemetery of Egreville.

Every year, at the beginning of July, a great festival of music and gastronomy takes place in the moat and the garden of the castle : La Douve Blanche (the White Moat).
